Description
We love The Bluffs. If we can add it to our island commute, we stop, even if just for two minutes, to enjoy the vista. Those gorgeous summer days, when islanders are so busy, it is refreshing to stop for a moment under the shade of a Douglas fir, drink in the view, and know that this beautiful vista is here for you.
The Bluffs Nature Protection area, named for the magnificent 300ft shoreline ‘bluffs’ located above Active Pass, comprises approximately 139 hectares (342 acres) of green space (forest, cliff and meadow ecosystems), with hiking trails throughout, bisected by Bluff Road. It was created as community parkland in 1948 through a land donation by Mr. & Mrs. Max Enke and the financial contributions of a great many islanders.
